The title of Hotel of the Year is one of the most coveted in the hotel industry, and is only awarded to the very best hotels in Switzerland. Located at the heart of the famous Swiss spa resort of St. Moritz, the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz boasts breathtaking views of the majestic scenery of Lake St. Moritz, the Engadin Alps, and the hotel’s extensive grounds, which cover 2,000 square meters.
Hotel Director Heinz Hunkeler is the first hotelier to win the Hotel of the Year award for a second time, after having received the honor at the Grand Hotel Kronenhof in 2008. “ This prestigious award is clear confirmation of the excellence of the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz, ” says Hunkeler of the award. “ To win it a second time truly is a tremendous honor. ”
The Kulm Hotel St. Moritz has a rich history that is steeped in tradition. Pioneering hotelier Johannes Badrutt opened the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz in the Engadin in 1864 and, at the same time, created the concept of winter tourism. The winter sun on the southern slopes of this Alpine valley continues to draw visitors to this day. The historic Eispavillon in Kulm Park, which once welcomed the ice skaters during the Winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948, was reopened in January 2017. This winter, German chef Tim Raue, holder of 19 GaultMillau points, will take the helm at the Kulm Hotel’s gourmet restaurant, K. At this upscale St. Moritz eatery, guests will be treated to Tim Raue’s exquisite interpretation of Asian haute cuisine.
“ We are delighted to present this award to the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz, ” says Sascha Moeri, CEO of Carl F. Bucherer. “ This exclusive Swiss hotel boasts outstanding quality, the very highest standards, and a truly exceptional design. ” Sascha Moeri joined brand ambassadors DJ Antoine and Daniel Bernhardt, along with GaultMillau Editor in Chief Urs Heller to honor Hotel Director Heinz Hunkeler. During the awards ceremony, Mr. Moeri presented a special watch to Mr. Hunkeler, engraved with the words “ Hotel of the Year 2018 ” on its case back.
