Carl F. Bucherer Brand Ambassador Mujinga Kambundji Honored With Two Prestigious Titles
LUCERNE (Dec. 18, 2019) Carl F. Bucherer is pleased and very proud to announce that brand ambassadors Wendy Holdener and Mujinga Kambundji were nominated at the Swiss Sports Awards 2019 for their outstanding athletic performances this year. Mujinga Kambundji managed to take home two titles at the Award Gala, on Sunday, December 15th.
A world-class sprinter, Kambundji earned recognition as the Swiss "Sportswoman of the Year 2019," and was also a member of 2019's "Team of the Year" - the women's 4x100 meter relay squad.
"We couldn't be more proud of the efforts of our brand ambassador, Mujinga Kambundji, in 2019," Sascha Moeri of Carl F. Bucherer said. "At Carl F. Bucherer, we take the utmost pride in exquisitely crafting highest quality watches – products that embody success through ambition and brilliance. There is no doubt that Mujinga Kambundji matches that definition perfectly. From all of us here at Carl F. Bucherer, we would like to congratulate her on an amazing year."
For Kambundji, the honors cap off a remarkable year of success. The athlete - who grew up in Bern to Congolese and Swiss parents - won the first World Championships medal for a Swiss woman in 22 years, taking bronze in the 200-meter race. She was also a key member of the 4x100 relay team that competed among the best of the best in 2019. The team earned fourth place at the World Championships in Doha, setting a Swiss time record, and earning a place for the country in the 2020 summer Olympics.
The Sports Awards are Switzerland's top athletic honors. Handed out every year since 1950, the awards have recognized over 250 of the country's top athletes. In 2019, Kambundji joins fellow honorees Christian Stucki (wrestling, Sportsman of the Year), Manuela Schar (Paralympic Athlete of the Year), and Roman Josi (ice hockey, Most Valuable Player of the Year) with awards. The Awards also recognized Kambundji's consultant and coach, Adrian Rothenbuhler, as "Trainer of the Year."
Kambundji became a brand ambassador for Carl F. Bucherer in 2015 and earned the title of "the fastest woman in Switzerland." By the age of 22, she had won the Swiss championships nine times (four 200m wins and five 100m wins). In 2016, she won bronze in the 100m at the European Championships and competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
